Weird noise

Well I have this extreamly wierd noise thats hard to explain, so bare with me. But when I'm inside the truck, towards the front of the truck like by the firewall area there's this wierd noise, kind of like a light grinding noise. I haven't a clue where to start looking to find this problem. It's not a loud noise, just worrysome and annoying. Thanx guys for the help!

Re: Weird noise

it could be, possibly, the little cooling fan attached to your radio. i had the same problem and it took me probably a month to figure that out, and it was only after I mentioned it on here that someone pointed it out to me. but, anyway, that fan runs pretty much whenever it wants to, so don't be shocked if you hear it running

I have a similiar problem as well. It almost sounds like it's coming from underneath the dash or near the firewall.... it's like a tick...tick...tick...tick... hard to explain. It does it the minute I start the truck whether the heat is on or not... very weird!
I have an '04 Silverado

Re: Weird noise

That tick tick, almost a crackling sound, you here is your gauges. There were some links a while back to this explaining exactly what the sound is.
The guages are electronic and it is the sounds of the gauges functioning normally.

Re: Weird noise

well, i dont have the stock radio so i doubt that its the cooling fan behind it, but i hear it when the everything is off, including the heater, so i know its not that, and when i open the hood i can't hear it. only when its quiet in the cab. It is very confusing. It also doesnt have a pattern to it, sounds almost like morrse code, lol.

Re: Weird noise

Mine does the same thing. It does it for about 15 seconds when I turn off the truck too. It sometimes sounds like the CD player or the AC/heater.

Re: Weird noise

well i did some investigating today and here's what i concluded. you can hear it from the out side but not in the engine compartment, it sounds like it is located on the driverside, and up buy the exhaust manifold area, it only does it when running, its a buzzing kind of sound, and doesnt change repititions when you rev it. Sounds like the game of clue, lol, but thats what i have so far
