Ping/Pre-ignition on Start
When I turn the key and engage the starter the engine turns over fine and does a quick "ping-slap-dung-ping" as the engine comes to life. It seems like the engine starts/fires too early or incorrectly. It's really an annoyance an it can't be good for the rig. Otherwise the engine runs and sounds great. Thoughts?

Re: Re: Ping/Pre-ignition on Start
It sounds like pre-ignition. I'll try and record it so you can hear it. There's no way to describe it in words.
(I do get some tapping in the valve train during the first 4-5 seconds or so of running but I think that is normal.) Quote:

Re: Ping/Pre-ignition on Start
Mine does the same thing.
For a split second, on start up, I can hear the ping. Bought the truck new, has always done this. When warmed up, it seems normal. The engine has always started with only flick of the key, even in extreme cold. I would'nt worry about. I would like to know why it does ping though.
