99 Camaro Will Not Start

Hi. Thanks for having me in this forum. There appears to be a lot of knowledge here and I have a question that I hope will resolve my problem. My girlfriend's daughter has a 99 Camaro. The "Check Engine Light" has been on for some time and after reading the codes found the problem and fixed it. The "Check Engine Light" is still on. On her suggestion I disconnected the negative wire from the battery for about 5 minutes to see if that would reset it. Upon reconnecting the wire and trying to start the car, nothing. All of the lights work and gages, but the starting circuit is not open. In reading some of the previous post, I think it has something to do with the security system of the car. Any help on what I should do. It literally was disconnecting the negative battery cable and reconnecting it 5 minutes later. No short of anything!! Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: 99 Camaro Will Not Start

welcome to the forums.

I hate to see you hanging, I'm not to knowledgeable on newer models, but, if all you did was diconnect the battery and now it won't crank at all, then yes you may have "upset" the body control module and subsequently caused a prablem with the security system. 'Mr. Lous' had a similar problem recently, try a search and see if it applies.

Thought I would let you know the outcome of this problem. This was my girlfriend's daughter's car and I was not familiar with it. I had it towed to a garage and $260.00 later they told me that there was an aftermarket security system installed and my disconnecting the battery made it think it was being stolen. So it did what it was supposed to do, which was to shut down the starting circuit. They disconnected the system and now works like it did beforehand. They bought this car used and there was no information provided on the security system other than "we think there is a security system with this car". Thanks for everyone's interest.
