Question Can Taurus shift points be adjusted?

Thanks, I must have not clearly posted it, Heres is what I meant. Does anybody know how to adjust the shift point on a 96-99 Taurus GL, I have the 3.0/ 6 Vulcan enigne, fuel injected with four speed automatic. I just chanced the air filter placed a K &N air filter and changed the factory air obstructing intake called sacsophone . So I have much better cool air flow to engine but it seems to have raised my vacum a little. My shift point especialy when you push the pedal for passing takes longer to release 3rd . It Rams up to 4's and 4.5 RPM x1000.

I know that On the older car from the 70"s with Turbo 350 Transmission you could adjust the shift point just by turning a screw on the vacum madule on the tranmission; If you did have one, you could buy one, but these new cars am not sure if vacum alone is what controls the shifting.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to calibrate and or adjust it on a Taurus trans with out having to go inside the transmission.

I would really like for you to explain this statement.

just upgraded the air intake to (carburator) or housing

the tranny has electronically controlled Shifts points.

A chip or a programmer is the only way to change them

The transmission in your Taurus is most likely a Ax4S transmision. All AX4S and AX4N transmissions are electric; they are told to shift up by the computer. It is shifting up at 4500 RPM becuase your foot is on the floor. Its also fuel injected and there's no carb. or none that I know of. Maybe the people at www.taurusclub.com/forum can give some more insight than I.

Re: Can Taurus shift points be adjusted?

If you created a custom intake, you may have created a vacuum leak. I think he's referring to the throttle body. I am not sure the vacuum routing on that car, but that would be my first guess.. Your best bet would be to put it back the way it was, or have someone fix it for you. Usually you don't gain much at all off of intakes like that. In some situations, it could be worse if it's sucking in air from under the hood. The car already has a fresh air intake setup.

Thumbs up Taurus shift points adjustment Question

Thanks gentlement for your input, I corrected my previous question so it can be read better. It was just a K&N air filter and better air intake set up tube out to the front gril so it can get cooler air; Just like the old muscle cars. Just that alone does make a big different, I got more power/ speed. Thanks again gentlement, I just ordered a performance chip for my on board computer.

if you know anything about transmissions, you could try putting in a shift kit. But don't attempt it if you don't know how to for sure. It could really screw up the trans. if installed incorrectly.
