cammed 355 in 77 camaro

Hey everyone...I just purchased a 77 Camaro w/355 and no info on motor. WAS told it is a transplant and mildly cammed ...how do i tell?

Can any help me...how do i do a vin check on the car to see what it was originally? RS, SS, Z28

The eighth digit from the left is the engine code.

L - 350
U - 305
D - 250
