93 Dakota Woes

I own both a 93 and 2000 Dakota. on the 93 I need to find out where they hid the crankshaft sensor. My problem is the vehicle goes about 12 miles then quits. At first i'd wait twenty to thirty minutes and it would start again, now just sits in the yard. I had a dealer look at it (yeah I Know never take it to the dealer) but I bought a computer module, o2 sensor, filter, fuel pump, fuel filter and ,major tune up still doesn't run. towed it from the dealer (imagine that) they couldn't figure out the problem, but were willing to sell me another dodge? Help, where is the sensor. I believe this is the only problem left, as they did not touch it or mention it.But I believe by reading the literature that this is an important item, creating a sensor to ignite the first cylinder. Then the rest would follow.

On the 2000 the oil pressure guage skyroceted on my way to work read high pressure, then rapidly went down to low, the dealer (yeah again) said it was a bad oil filter or oil sensor, well after much money this too sits in the yard, another yard ornament. How difficult is it to change an oil pump on the 4.7 liter engine? I have some mechanical experience, but not many fancy tools?

crank sensor should be on the passenger side by the exhaust manifold by the fire wall kinda back behind the valve cover 2 bolts hold it down

Why are you looking at changing the oil pump if the diag was bad filter or sensor?

I would try a filter and oil psi gauge first. on my 95. 5.2L my oil sender when bad and my gauge was all over the place. I used a 27MM socket had to have the inside machined out to fit over the sender.

first of all, never trust a digital oil pressure guage. have it hooked up to a mechanical one. the higher the pressure the better as long as its not pushing past the seals.
as for the crank sensor are you sure thats the problem, ive seen that problem caused by a faulty icm, (ignition control modual). it heats up and stops working that explains you being able to drive then it dies then once it cools down you can start it again.

Where is that ICM located?

if you have a distributor the icm is located inside the dist. with one or two plugs connected too it. if u have distributorless/ no distr. the icm is usually under the coil packs or beside them.
