Question sluggish 97 grand am

I have a 97 pontiac grand am 2.4L 4 cyl. auto tranny. About 2 weeks ago it wants to be real sluggish and bog down after I first start it up at any time of the day when I put it in drive. In park it runs fine even when I give it gas. It dosen't do it long, just until I get about 20-30 yards or so then drives just fine afterwards. If anyone has a possible solution I would greatly appreciate it. Problem getting worse and no check engine light has come on yet.

hav u checked the fluid level? Is there lots of miles on the car? Maybe time to change the fluid and filter.

As a matter of fact I just replaced the transmission about 3000 miles ago, new filter, fluid and flush. Have replaced plugs recently also. Maybe possibly fuel injectors, but only does it for a few seconds when you first start it up and go. Is there a sensor that might be causing the problem? Oh, but it does have 155k miles on it.

Re: sluggish 97 grand am

the O2 sensors can cause some ruff idle till they get warmed up. But you saay the transmissoin was 'flushed'? That can be a bad thing I have heard, esspeciaally with high miles. The theory is that with high miles, the clutches are worn and when you flush away the matterial in between the clutches, they will slip. Probley when or as the trany warms up the gaps in the clutches get smaller. That make any sense?

Nope, that makes no sense to me, but I do know that it dosen't feel like the tranny slipping. It feels more like its starving for fuel, but like I said it will drive perfect after the first anitial start up like there is nothing wrong with it.

You said,"there is nothing wrong with it.", then what exactly is your question?
The starving for fuel could be several things, like the air filter, the injectors not working properly. Your IAC or MAF or MAP sensors could be wearing out. The O2 sensors what I would try changing first, since it does it on start up and then quits. Maybe spark plugs & wires if you havnt had those changed in a while(this is cheaper then the O2 sensors).

I will start on the list you gave me and try to narrow it down. I appreciate the help.
