Re: cretex paints

Read their website, it tells you exactly what their paints are designed for, including their airbrush range.

I am sure they are 'safe' to use on models, whether they will give you the desired results, I doubt.

Re: cretex paints

I have a buddy who airbrushes 1:1 motorcycle flames, skulls, that sort of thing and he uses the Createx autoair line. It dries flat and is cleared using a urethane automotive clear. Works good for him. Never tried it on a model yet though.

Re: cretex paints

Yeah... it take a bit of skills to tin down correctly. Dont use water to tin though... it's a mess. The paint gives good result but you'll need a clear coat on it. Createx have their own Clear. That's what I used for 2 cars and got pretty good results.

I've seen outstanding results w/Createx. One of the best builders I know (Bill Cunningham) uses Createx acrylics clearcoated w/Future. He paints in his basement w/o a spray booth that vents outdoors, so he needs to paint with non-toxic paints.

His painting style is quite different from mine. He spends a long time (at least 30 minutes) very slowly building up the color in ultra-thin mist coats, just barely misting any color in each pass. We're talking probably hundreds of incredibly thin coats of paint. I believe he uses some Future in the color coats to help it flow. By the time he's got a deep coat of Future (applied the same way) covering the color coats and it's polished out, you'd never know it wasn't a lacquer paint job. He has far more patience than me in his painting style. But it does work. Future is a great clearcoat if you do NOT wetsand it. Dry sanding with micromesh and polishing after that is what works.

Re: cretex paints

My experiences with Createx paints have been pretty good. There are two main lines of paint by Createx, the normal line which is mostly designed for t-shirt art and the second line which is called Createx AutoAir which is designed for automotive use.

There is a hardner and a catylizer that needs to be added to both of them if you use them on a slick or hard surface. The main line of paints will work decent on a model, etc... but the AutoAir line is designed specifically for use in automobile/motorcycle/helmet painting. It works best when sprayed over white primer and you must use the hardner. The paint comes in lots of different colors (candies, pearls, metallics, chameleon colors, etc...). When the paint dries you can mask over it (if you used the hardener) for two tone paint jobs. It is recommended that you "dry" the paint with a hair dryer in order for the paint to "set" properly (the hardner is heat activated). The regular line of createx paints don't lend themsleves well to masking. It's likely that the paint will peel off with the tape. It is recommended that the AutoAir line be cleared with urethane clear. Without the clear it will not hold up well. I also know that you can clear the AutoAir line with Plasti-kote clear lacquer without any problems if you spray a couple mist coats first and let them dry before you spray any wet coats. However, I have never tried any other clear lacquer over this paint.

I've used the paint to paint models, helmets and Harley's without any problem.
