Question Relocating pcm in 2001 impala

Hey guys. Me and my dad bought a new air intake. We found out that the pcm is actually inside the stock airbox in the impala. We gotta get rid of the air box to put the air intake in but need to relocate the pcm. I was looking on some sites and one of the sites showed some guy putting a piece of aluminum down where the stock airbox was. He put some grommets in and put the pcm right ontop of it. Should we do that? or should we make a Aluminum box to hold the pcm in it. My dad is afraid water is going to hit the pcm from the bottom of the car. Thanks any help of where to put this damn thing is greatly appreciated.

Re: Relocating pcm in 2001 impala

Here's what I did....Buy some shrink wrap plastic, like from a parts store...use that to waterproof the PCM. It doesn't have to be air tight, b/c it won't be submerged, but it could possibly get splashed. After it is wrapped, use a few zip-ties to mount it to the frame, just in front of where the air box was. I'd use fomr foam tape on the frame where the PCM will touch, to eliminate vibration. That's what I did, and several thousand miles and hurricanes later, it's still working out great. Let me know if it works for ya....

As for making an aluminum box, I wouldn't...u can waterproof it w/ just some plastic, it's easier, cheaper, and less to worry about.
