new rotors now weird noise

I put dimpled/slotted rotors on my car last weekend and it started making a weird sound when I'm not on the brakes now... the best way I can describe it would be that noise when your riding a bicycle and you stop peddling and coast that "ttttttttttttt" noise..... is this just because of the drilled/slotted rotors or is something else wrong???

You shouldn't hear anthing when you are off the brakes...

Is it a ticking noise or a pinging noise? Ticking sometimes is just heat expansion and the tick is the metal relieving the stress... Pinging is you CV joints need to be changed.

nope no pinging... really really sounds like that noise a bicycle makes when your coasting, and I can tell its coming from the brakes for sure.... could there be just a hard spot on the old pads from some oil or greese during installation????

Re: new rotors now weird noise

well what kinda car is this ? does it have drum or disc in the rear an did u only put the slotted drilled on the fronts? cus i gotta let u know something about that its a common thing if u change just the front brakes or do a upgrade like slotted/drilled an the rear is either drum or a tiny disc set up that the wheel studs can acually sheer off on the front where u did the brake upgrade cause the front grabs so good an its like the rear is doing nothing - that tells u how important the brakes are all working properly an what not... i have had many friends have this happend with rear disc an with drums on the there four/five lug hondas an subaru's not to mention the noise that came when they braked hard it was like rubbing your hand on a blown up rubber balloon made that reeeeaaat noise not a grinding or a scraping nothing bad it was just u would hear the brakes grabing so good it made that noise....
but first thing i would do is put some new pads on that sucker an see how it does after that it sounds like you old pads are too crummy for the new rotors,,, i got ceramic for $76 for the fronts its a bit expensive for just 4 pads but its so worth it trust me... so just change u pads to a non low quality pad...
good luck bud,
matt

I honestly think it's just heat stress... I assume that the ticking is just when the rotors are hot?

Re: new rotors now weird noise

Have you been 4 wheeling recently? Could have moved a rock into your tire, happens often, oh thats right sorry wrong forum. It could be the dust deflector causing this sound, check it and make sure it is not loose or touching.

Well first off, if you reused your old pads, you should have at least sanded them down evenly a bit. Also, it is rather hard for us to tell you what is wrong. It sounds like something is rubbing, so your best bet would be to start with a physical inspection.

THIS IS CRAZY, so crazy it just might work!
you know the dust shield? the big thin round metal plate behind the rotor. yeah push out on it, I bet the dust shield got bent up towards the rotor and is rubbing on the rotor itself. check all four and push them back with your hand, they flex easy enough.
let me know if it works.
