Re: 5300 motor opinions

From what I can tell you it is a great motor. Very strong. I am a recent convert from Ford and I love it. I proccured a 2001 2wd LS Ext cab 5.3 with 38K miles, and its great. I bought it GM certified, so I am having a last chance lookover done by the shop before the "GM Certified" period is over.

Recent polls suggest that the 5.3 is better on MPG, power and all around performance. You can get them re-tuned (neslon performance) to run even better.

Welcome to the forums!!

I've got an '02 with almost 60k miles on it right now. I have only had it for about 7 or 8 months now but I haven't had a single problem with the truck. All the complaints and problems that I have heard other people mention ie: clunks, rotors, gaskets or otherwise were either fixed before I bought it, or have yet to happen to me. I am totally happy in every way with my truck. It is the most dependable and useful vehicle I have ever owned and I can't imagine ever buying anything else again providing the quality stays up to par in the future. FTR I get about 16.5 mpg consitantly with stock equip. but I got my FIPK today and will get my exhaust done in the next 2 weeks. I don't know about 0-60 or quarter mile times, but there is power to spare everytime I want to open her up for some fun.

Ive had mine for over 3 years now and havent had any problems, I run my truck fairly hard and she's got tons of power. I really need to get a tune and electric fans put on though. My gas mileage was good up until i move to Hawaii. I used to average 18 to 19 MPG. I just bought Iridium plugs to replace the bosch platinums that I had put in the truck. Was told bosch wasnt good to run in these engines, Read some posts and see most people here go with AC Delco or NGK. Welcome to the forum.
