EMPI parts?

Is it just me or are some of Empis parts low quality. It seems like every part I have that is made by Empi has to be hacked up or modified to fit. This is not a problem if noted in the instructions, or in the item description before you make a purchase, but to get these parts and have to re-engineer them is crazy. I am new to VWs, but not to the aftermarket. One example is the dual 34 cit carb kit that came with our turnkey engine. In order for the air cleaners to go on the carbs, I had to notch out the brackets attached to the carbs that hold the hex bar linkage setup. This Empi carb setup was sold to my boss with the rebiult(turnkey) engine. I was just wondering if anyone else has had the same luck with Empi products?

The EMPI name has been acquired a number of years back by "Mr Bug",and is now being applied to items sourced mainly from Taiwan,China etc.These are not necessarily made only for EMPI,but are existing parts that have been offered for years,only now in a colorful EMPI packing,trading off the decades of name recognition that the original Joe Vittone EMPI (Engineered/European Motor Products Inc) imparted.EMPI started by Vittone way back when VW did not use replaceable valve guides in their cylinder heads...the whole head had to be trashed.Vittone came up with a way to replace them,and sold them under the EMPI banner.Camber compensators,sway bars and other items were offered along the way,and eventually became a large yearly catalog.EMPI was sold off to the "LEE ELIMINATORS" of LEE filter fame (now made by Champion Laboratories) and eventually phased out.Until the Mr BUG revival.Its a name now,but not much else.
