Ceramic Brake Pads?

I keep seeing these and reading about them, but have not found anyone who has ceramic brake pads on their vehicle. Are they worth the extra $$?

Re: Ceramic Brake Pads?

Tje garage that i take my truck to for most of the work that i can not or do not want to do say that they are not good cause they are harder than regular pads and could cause warpage of the rotors quicker. When i had my brakes done they installed a set of wagner suv pads.

I like mine, I put Raybestos pads front and rear. I also put cross drilled and slotted rotors on to combat heat damage. The pads are clean and i have great all weather stopping.

And how many people on this forum alone have been complaining about warped rotors.

Re: Ceramic Brake Pads?

I installed some ceramic pads after going to the bigger tires hoping that they would help out a bit. NOPE. Within two weeks I was getting nasty squeeking and vibration from the front. This off of brand new ceramics and machined rotors. They seem harder than the rotor. Now I just leave more space b/w me and the car in front of me....lol

Re: Ceramic Brake Pads?

Warping? Is this something specific to the Chevys? I've used ceramics on other vehicles and never had any problems with warping.

I don't know if it is specific to chevy, but there have seen a fair amount on here complaining about it and that is with factory equipment. (rotors and pads).

Hell for that matter , my brother had a knife that the blade was ceramic. I don't know if he still has it or if he ever tried sharpening it or not though.

Re: Ceramic Brake Pads?

I had so much trouble with the factory rotors and pads that I switched over to Brembo slotted rotors and NAPA ceramic pads and have had no problems of any kind.

Lightbulb Re: Ceramic Brake Pads?

I just pulled the ceramic pads off of my 98 Silv after putting my second set of rotors on. I read a great article on the web about what most people think is warped rotors is actuall pad material built up on the rotor. To test this I pulled my ceramic pads, polished the 'dirty looking half' of the rotor with some silicon carbide sand paper until shinny, put semi-met pads on and the pulsation was gone!!!
