Angry will 87 crx si front shocks bottom out

i hav a 87 crx si. i lowered it by adjusting the torsion bars in the front and going with the ground control coilovers with the eibach springs in the back. i am very satisfied with the coilover setup i hav in the rear ( stock shocks, eibach springs) but in the front i still hav the stock shocks which seem to bottom out on almost every small bump or change in elevation in the road. the nut to lower the torsion bars is tightend just enough to feel safe ( no threads going threw the nut)
my question iz will aftermarket front shocks have the same amount of travel as the stocks. if they do are they stiff enough to handle my setup. and which shocks would be the best. help

Re: will 87 crx si front shocks bottom out

There are a few fixes for this:

1) Cut the bump stop on top of the front struts in half (risky)

2) Cut the tab off the bottom of the front struts and drop the struts lower in the knuckles. To do this you will also have to gently grind a new groove in the struts for the bolt to pass through.

3) Get stiffer torsion bars.

4) Get camber plates. these will let the top of the strut sit a little higher.

cool thanx for the linx. for now do you think i can install just the TOKICO Illumina
5-Way Adjustable Shocks without them bottoming out. can i adjust them to be stiff enough to not bottom out. (NOTE: this is an everyday driver but comfort is not an issue)

Tokico Illuminas have the same amount of travel as the stock struts, so they will still bottom out. Struts/shocks merely slow down the travel of a spring when you corner or hit a bump, the springs are what stiffen the ride. I've bottomed out my Illuminas several times, usually only when there are 2 people in the car.

why not return the front back to what it was before you modified it while you wait on the new stuff to come in? it might look funny but atleast you wouldn't bottom out, or maybe you could manage it somewhere in the middle of where it is now and where it was to begin with
