Replacement engine for a 95 Corolla
A friend of mine just lost the engine in his 95 Corolla. I was wondering what other models and years will fit in his car. I don't know too much about the Toyotas, but he tells me it's a 1.6L. He's not looking to beef it up or do anything special with it, he just wants to get it back on the road as cheap as possible. Any suggestions would be appreciated. He is located south of Toledo, OH (in case you have an engine available).

Re: i have a 96 corolla
Yep. I saw those JDM engines on Ebay. I was wondering what other models of Toyota engines would fit with no modifications. I read where the Geo Prism had the same engine and I think the Celica 1.8 should fit in as well, but I'm not too sure that the computer would match up if I went to a larger engine. Thanks in advance for any further input.

Re: Re: i have a 96 corolla
I haven't had much response to my question, so let me be more specific. If I go to a junkyard looking for a 1.6L engine for a 95 Toyota, what years and models will have an engine that will bolt right in with no modifications? Do I have to stay with the 1.6L or can I go up to the 1.8L without changing anything? Thanks.

Re: Replacement engine for a 95 Corolla
The engine code you're looking for is the 4A-FE. That's the 1.6L, and if I'm not mistaken, the 7A-FE (1.8L) should fit right in there too.

Re: Re: Replacement engine for a 95 Corolla
Thanks for the response. I do have a couple of other questions... would the 1.8L require swapping out the computers as well? Also, I've seen these terms, 4A-FE and 7A-FE, used before on the forum. Are these numbers stamped or forged onto the engine somewhere. How do I know what engine I am looking at? Thanks!

Re: Replacement engine for a 95 Corolla
4afe and 7afe should fit perfectly BUT the 7afe is a lil taller, your ecu should be fine with the 7afe, and the letters 4afe, 7afe should be forged right on the side of the motor, just look at the motor's sides when you turn your head sideways, good luck
