Ruined Head?

Hey I just recently bought a 97 EX and I have had nothing but problems with it. A week after I bought it I pulled it out of the driveway and the oil light came on. When I was turning it around the motor started clicking real bad. when I get it pulled back in I check the oil and its bone dry. I drained only about a quart out of it. after replacing the oil and oil filter it still clicks and has no power after 3k rpms. What am I missing here? What did I forget to check or is the head ruined? The worst part about it is the dealer I bought it off said he had the Oil replaced earlier that day. What a loser. He laughed at me when I brought it back to him. The car doesnt have highbeams either. Can a dealer legaly sell a car that won't pass inspection?? Thanks in advance.

You should check your state's lemon laws.

Re: Ruined Head?

no hi beam means check fuse, wiring, and bulb. the oil has nothing to do with that. the oil being low just means its leaking, burning, or someone just halfassed and never changed it or put to little oil in it.

what do you mean by click? clicking/ticking when the engine is running? valve adjustment? get a compression and leakdown done.

Re: Ruined Head?

I know why the high beams dont work, there aren't any bulbs where there should be. I was just asking if a dealer could sell a car the couldn't pass inspection. As far as the oil goes I believe someone just overlooked it or something. Its a clicking noise when it's started and after you try and push it pass 3k rpms. No power after that I have to switch gears. What rpm does vtec come in? 5.5krpm? I think i might take it to a pro mechanic if I cant get it figured out today. I hate paying someone to do something I can't just because I can't figure it. Damnit if i dont hate my car I love it...when it runs good. Thanks.

Re: Ruined Head?

I found out what was wrong. Overheated camshaft + overheated rod bearing = blown motor. Just traded the body of my 2dr EX for a 92 SI hatch with a GSR motor. yay. Now I have to save up all over again to get a 96 model EX. this will be the 5th Honda I'ved owned. first was the 95 DX, then a 90 EX 4dr, Owned a 91 rex during that time, bought the 97 EX sept 20th. Now im about to own a 92 SI with a gsr. damnit.

well thats unfortunate, but its your responsibility to make sure the car you are buying is in good shape. things happen. be more careful where you buy things from.
