GM Slipping Transmissions
A confidential GM service bulletin blames automatic transmission slipping on debris in the transmission. If you have the problem, quote the bulletin printed below and ask GM to pay part or all of the cost under its “goodwill” policy.

with 4L60-E/4L65-E Automatic Transmission (RPOs M30/M32)

Condition Some customers may comment on any of the following conditions:

^ The SES lamp is illuminated.

^ No 3rd and 4th gear.

^ The transmission does not shift correctly.

^ The transmission feels like it shifts to Neutral or a loss of drive occurs.

This is a GM TSB that is to inform GM Technicians about the cause and repair of a concern on a specific system.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. All this bulletin says is to check and clean the 2-3 shift valve and bore and install an updated solenoid.

Anyone who has worked on transmisions will tell you that it only takes a small piece of dirt or debris to plug an orifice and cause the trans to not operate properly.
