ticking

hey my 91 305 has a ticking noise and my dad said it could be the distributor cap b/c mine is no good how can i fix a spark tick, or could it be sometyhing else please help

My alternator ticks on my car for some reason. It still works fine just got used to the noise.

it could be a couple extra things such as a loose or too tight rocker, or it could be a stuck valve, or a loose timing chain.

You said your dad said it was the distributor... mine does the same thing at idle when its in drive. Its somewhat common. If its not a lifter tick (look into that) or a manifold tick then don't worry about it.

a common problem is a broken exhaust manifold bolt or a cracked exhaust manifold
