Buying an Aurora soon
Hello,
My wife and I are looking at 2001 and 2002 Auroras and we will probably be buying one soon. All the reviews I have seen have been fairly positive and most reviews on epinions.com were good, however, since we ended up buying a VW Jetta last time and were horribly disappointed, I just wanted as many opinions as possible. So, all you fine Aurora owners out there, what do you like or dislike about your car and would you buy one all over again? any responses are greatly appreciated. Also, here’s a bit of return advice, . . . never never NEVER buy a VW Jetta. you will have a lot of fun driving it, but you will be driving it to the dealership. OK thanks again. |

I've had excellent service from my 98 except for the following dealer installed replacements:
Torque converter switch bad at 115,000, replace trans $2900.00 Bad ignition switch, $400.00 Bad fuel sending unit, $300.00 Water pump, $500.00 The paint is holding up great, much better than older GM cars I've owned. This car is hard on brakes, I've replaced rotors and had three brake jobs. The comfort level is excellent and the ride is always smooth. Gas mileage averages 23 as I drive 70% highway and worst comes to worst, I run 87 with no knocks or pings. I only let the dealer work on this car. It is expensive on the upkeep but overall is the best car I've owned. I plan to keep this car as I know two others that have over 200,000 miles with same problems. Mine has the V8 autobahn package, bose, and sunroof and I love the power and handling. My car has been everywhere and is driven daily. If I had to do it again, I would buy another although I like the classic better than the newer models. In a nutshell, if you plan to drive a long time, be prepared to get your wallet out for repairs. Everything is so tight fitting it takes special tools to do just about everything. But then again, where can you find a 4 door sedan that gets good mileage, rides good, and will turn 14 second quarters and a top speed of 138? Surely a clear match for any import or many cars period.

As you can probably see from the posts here, to own an Aurora is to love it, or at least try! It's an all around wonderful car to drive and own, with a special combination of beauty, power, and affordable luxury. It's a relatively expensive car to repair, loaded with electronics, and will scare most mechanics off! I've found that Cadillac dealers tend to have the real northstar experts when you need one, and I wouldn't entrust my 2001 Aurora's engine to anything less! If you're inclined to do some repairs yourself, I'd recommend getting the factory manuals for your model Aurora. There's a lot of things that you can fix yourself on this car if you've the skills, tools, and manuals to go by. My manuals have already paid for themselves and then some. Since Auroras are now out of production, the more you understand about the system the more capable you'll be in avoiding and or handling, any crises that may arise. Best of luck!

Or you could just buy a Toyota Avalon(280 HP-32 MPG) and all you have to do is put gas in it.

Best suggestion yet! I really like my Aurora but with the money Ive sunk into it over the last 2.5 years I really should have spent the extra $2000 and got the 98 Nissan Maxima SE. BKVic |

tranny, fuel pump, coil pack, plug wires, plugs, oil leak, etc.
I just replaced the belts, a pulley, radiator, master cylinder, and brakes only to have the above fail. 115k miles Still looks good though!! |

Re: Re: Buying an Aurora soon
I brought an 97 Aurora from an auction in March. Who ever owed the car really abused it. It is now October, and I have about got it ready to strup its stuff. This is the first front wheel drive car I have owed. I brought the service manuals, so I have did most of the work myself. I might be wrong, but the Aurora seems to be a automobile. That is made for someone with a lot of dollars. Or for someone that is not afraid of getting some grease on their hands. The engine I installed in the car has 50,000 miles on it. It does not accelerate as fast as I would like. But once it gets up to highway speed, it has plenty of power.I didn't know a lot about front wheel drive cars, but I do now.

Pulled the fuel pump and took out the motor. Hooked it up to a 6V battery to test and I get a slight vibration then nothing. It appears that it is locked up. Any idea where i can get the motor only and not the entire fuel pump/guage assembly?
