Okay, so the airbag light on my '95 Grand Cherokee had been stuck on. I tried disconnecting the battery (as someone suggested here) but it didn't make it go off when the battery was reconnected. A guy at a shop said to check the horn--that worked. (If it doesn't it can indicate a problem that can be fixed without first hooking it up the computer at the shop, meaning a cheaper fix.)
It went in the shop today and when I called to see what they'd found, the service guy kind of chuckled and asked if I lived in a rural area. (Um, yeah, one of the reasons why I bought a Jeep....) $150 later, what they found was that the airbag sensor wire had been gnawed through by MICE! Apparently this is a fairly common problem around here and he said to be glad that they "just" found droppings and not a nest and babies!

Re: Airbag light--you gotta read this!
You got off cheap. I once had to replace the main harness on a late 90s Caddy for a customer due to rabbits having a little feast...cost him a around $1,200.00! It is common in the Sun City area of Phoenix where cars are parked over the summer (while the owners are in thier summer homes back east) for the critters to take up residence under the hood.
