boost too high?

ok i just got done installing my automoter boost gauge.
i have read so many times that the stock boost is arround 9-11 psi? but my gauge is saying 14psi at full boost(when boostin and i floor it)the only mod that i have done to it is ebay turbo intake with open filter. can this mod cause me to be boosting that high?
also i read that the 2g BOV leaks arround 12? how do i know if it's leaking? i'm new to turbo stuff.
i used the fuel pressure solenoid i think that's what it's called. the thing that is conected at the end of the litle hose that conects to the instake manifold.thanks

Re: boost too high?

Stock 2g boost is 14 psi. No matter how many times I post this no one believes me. To bad the truth doesn't spread as fast as all the crankwalk myths do...

The stock 2g BOV wil start to leak well bfore 12 psi. More like 5. The question is at what point is the leak big enough to affect performance. At 14 psi I doubt it is hurting you much. The factory didn't choose that BOV because they like to use shit parts that will hurt performance. Its an overboost protection as well. Same with the EVO BOV. The poewr gain poeple feel from upgradig the BOV is from the spike that an upgraded BOV no longer dampens. Spikes to ~17-19 psi are not uncommon on an upgraded BOV.

Re: boost too high?

14psi is fine. I was running that with just the 3" exhaust, but it's no biggie. If you really want to see when it leaks, build a boost leak test via vfaq and test it out.

also kevin, I've been reading up on your posts on the dsmlink forums (not stalker-like), and I'm liking what you're doing man! keep it up. I have some logs I'd like you to look up sometime and see what ya think.

Re: boost too high?

Sure. PM me to get my email address so you can send them over, or if you post them on the DSMlink site PM me a link, since I don't have time to read all the threads. I'm always willing to look at DSMlink logs when I have time.

Re: boost too high?

Should be, since it came that way from the factory with a warranty But as always, stay alert to signs of trouble.
