God, you just gotta love honda...

I just love watching Honda kick some manufacturer bootey.

I was sitting in a waiting room this morning, reading a Car and Driver mag when I come across a full page article on one editor's love for the SULEV dubbed the Honda Insight. It goes on to detail the CVT tranny and techniques on how to get maximum acceleration out of the thing while still getting 60+ city miles per gallon. No biggie, right?

I keep on reading onto the highly acclaimed "Car and Driver's 10 Best". Did you know that Honda (not even including Acura) is the sole manfacturer to completely dominate the the list? Honda has made Car and Driver's 10 Best list EVERY year since the dang list was even started. Honda and Acura put together have had 46 cars in the list's 20 year history with the Accord making the grade every year except 4. Kinda puts the ford commercial ("The focus, the only small car to make it on C/D's 10 best list 3 years in a row") to shame huh?

I continue to coverage of last years Tokyo Auto Salon which is mostly dominated by the then prototype 350Z. But one thing stuck out: The most interesting Hybrid honda has made to date. Can't remember the name right now but it's a fully functional prototype of a 4 door sedan which incorporates a 3 liter V6 pumping out 300 hp to the *rear* wheels thru a marvelous i-Vtec system. And the hybrid part comes in thru the use of two smaller electric engines that put out an extra 100hp to the *front* wheels when needed. And of course, you never need to recharge. I'd heard about it before but I finally got to acquainte myself with it so-to-speak.

I go home later on in the day to watch the "Speed" channel for a bit of R/R. On pops up a sort of review for the newest Motorcycles to hit the street. And of course, honda rears thier head in again with the introduction of a revolutionary (Isn't most everything honda been revoluntionary) new H-cycle that incorporates all the mobility and speed of a motorcycle with the safety and sophistication of an automobile. The Honda Interceptor. The creature comforts include a new kind of ABS braking system that individually controls the multiple pistons in the robust calipers and nice comfy seats They've even managed to stuff all the Vtec functions onto the small V4 engine. It works like the conventional Vtec-E system (2 valves per cylinder under a certian RPM, then switch to four) which allows it to make the usual generous amounts of power with very little displacement while still maintaining emmissions in compliance with the 2008 California emmisions requirements. Don't tell me that's not impressive.

And of course, my Honda filled day was completed with the tantilizing little peek we've all been given at the world's most advanced humanoid robot that can actually walk by itself and even climb stairs. The Honda Asimo. GOD, you gotta love Honda.

I could fill this page up alone with the stuff honda has made that kicks ass. But that was just the stuff I came across in ONE day.

The Insight is the car that uses a small 3 cylinder gasoline engine with a boost from a smaller electric engine. The other supercar hybrid, I forgot its name.
