Question Cavalier Will Not Start in Hot Weather

I have a 95 Cavalier and when its 83 degrees F or hotter my car will not start. It turns over but it will not spark. I've replaced the plugs, wires, coils and even the fuel filter but nothing seems to help. If anyone has any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Cavalier Will Not Start in Hot Weather

You need 3 things for the engine to start: fuel, air, and spark. Figure out which of the 3 you don't have. It's a fairly safe assumption that you have air.

The battery is new. The car runs fantastic when the weather is cool; it just willl not start when it's hot outside.

Re: Cavalier Will Not Start in Hot Weather

it's turning over and not firing. when you turn the key, turno it all the way until the click just beofre starting when all the ligths are on on the dash and then see if you can hear the fuel pump priming. if not it's going something to do with probably them pump, but try switching the fule pump relay with the a/c relay (if you have it) and see if that makes a difference! I doubt it's battery, your car is turning over after all. you could check for spark by removin the fuel pump fuse or relay before putting thr key in the ignition. put the key in the ignition and then turn the car over for about 5 seconds, turn off, remove a spark plug, put the spark plug into its wire and then get someone to turn the car over and the touch the thread of the spark plug to the block, if it sparks then it's fuel. this wont work if you have the 2.3 twin cam though. it sounds like there is a crack in the coil pack housing. and when hot it expands. this is something i've come accross before.
