subaru impreza stalls on restart

My 1996 Subaru Impreza will stall after restart. I can drive 5 minutes, pull in somewhere, shut the engine off , come out, it starts right up and then stalls. I have to keep giving it gas and every stoplight thereafter, it will stall and I have to keep giving it gas to keep it running. The only goos thing is, it always restarts but its very frustrating. Please help!
