Has platinum vs. iridium plug issue been resolved?
I've read as many threads as I could find. My 2000 has over 80,000 mi. with original plugs, and no problems. I would need a good reason to switch away from the platinums and .06 gap. Some say that GM is saying to always go with the iridiums. Others say that the iridiums are only intended for trucks that came with the iridium plugs and .04 gap from the factory. Some suggested that using the iridium plugs on trucks that came from the factory with platinum plugs may cause problems. Was there any conclusion? Is there any new info out there?

GM has issued bulletins saying to use iridiums

If you were to take your truck in to the dealership for a tune up you most likely would get the iridium plugs, the platnium plugs are old stock and are not being used at the dealerships or from factory anymore. They have done some research and found that using the .60 gap causes too much resistance and causes more problems than good (like i expierenced). I say use the iridium plugs and go with the .40 gap especially considering that on the package is says to NOT adjust the gap of the new plugs.

I changed my plugs out a few months ago at 50,000 miles (not knowing that they were good until 100,000) and I was actually given a copy of the GM bulletin concerning the iridium plugs. It seems to me that they pretty much applied to every GM truck made after 1999 but don't quote me on it. And Kenny is right absolutely DO NOT adjust the gap on the plugs when you get them. Check them to make sure the gap is right and if it is wrong, don't adjust it, just take that plug back to where ever you bought them and exchange it for a new one.
