Question Ralph Lauren pimping the F1?

Doeth mine eyes deciveth me? Has our infamous LM03 owner began to proselytize our doctrine or simply rub it in our noses? LOL! I am just kidding. Has anyone seen the new Esquire magazine? Great shot in B&W of his two F1's, sorry they are not an LM however. I would have bought the issues had it not been spilled upon by some viscous material but I did manage to get phone camera shots.

Besides, Esquire? YMBK!

You are a brave man to admit to reading Esquire.

I've had a scan of one of those images that came my way a few days prior to this you posting this thread. I wasn't sure what it was as I didn't know the printed source and was hesitant to claim it was a shot of Lauren's pair until I had more info. In fact, I initially thought it might not be a pair at all, but could instead be two images of one car superimposed together. I also couldn't tell if it was recent, but I guess this answers that question too.

I will post the scan this evening for others to dissect.

Here's the scan I mentioned above:

Assuming this really is two cars, this would be the only shot I have of #074.

Are there any other images of the cars in the magazine besides the one in your Imagestation album? I hope so... I would love to find out if #074 has high mirrors as well.

Erik, could you post the pic that you said you thought was 074? You mentioned it on sc.net.

That's the one.

Assuming that is really two F1s, and that both are Ralph's, then one of those two cars is #074.

I'm going looking for this Esquire magazine tonight. (first and last time I will probably ever say that )

Looks like two cars to me because the way they're parked next to each other and how the grass doesn't look PS'd. I dont' see why they'd do to the extent to PS something like this when he has two that look almost the same.

I could easily take two pictures of the same car and crop out the background of one while leaving the foreground in tact, and overlay it onto the other making it seem like there are two. Especially if the image was black and white, which can mask lots of clues to the alteration.

I would like to believe it's two cars, but the artsyness of the image leaves me questioning that. Hopefully the magazine will provide an answer.

...or I could just be crazy.

I am nearly sure it is a Photoshop job. The breaking edge on the fore F1 is too hard for having a car of the same color next to it. I believe the car was photographed in the rear position, moved around to the front, and a picture taken from the same tripod. A simple cropping of the fore F1, without any lighting compensation, would produce an image like this.

It seems as if the artist attempted to hint at the fore F1's shape in the rear F1's window reflection, but careful look at the angles show the reflection to be in the wrong place.

Also, the rear engine cover panel is slightly raised from flush in both cars. This does not appear on most F1's I've seen.
Comparison: here
Of course, it could just not be fully closed.

Just my 2 cents.

Two points in favor of it being a pair of cars and not just one.

The car in the background is slightly out of focus, as one would expect it to be in a photo of two cars situated like this. Creating that effect would have required additional thought in an attempt to deceive and is more likely something that would be overlooked.

You can see the lip of the rear wheel on the car facing to the left through the windows of the car facing to the right. It is just a tiny piece of it, but its placed exaclty where one would expect it to be and I don't think it is likely someone would include that if they were manufacturing the image.

Are we having fun yet?

Ok - I found a copy of Esquire tonight. For all others, unless you must have this image in print I would suggest you save your time. The image is just inside the front cover in an advertisement. There's no article, not even any text about the cars, and unfortunately there are no other photos either. Bummer that...

I also didn't find the Octane with the Dunhill report - they still had this month's issue - and I didn't find the copy of Bimmer someone had said to look for either.

Re: Ralph Lauren pimping the F1?

If memory serves, it's an article by Nick Mason in Octane magazine. He mentions how very loud it is inside the GTR. I just read it at the bookstore, now I wish I had scanned it...I will look for it tomorrow again.
