Post 1996 idling issues

I left for work this morning and every time I let off the gas pedal, the idle would only go down to about 1500rpm, instead of the usual 1000 rpm or so. When I stopped at a light, I put my Rodeo in park. The idle rpm shot up to approx 2200 rpm. I took it out of park and it returned to 1500 rpm and went no lower than this for the rest of my trip to work ( 6 miles). The idle control valve was replaced last year. What could be causing this??

any help appreciated,
tc

Could be the idle-up switch (or whatever it's called) on the power steering pump.

Do you know where this idle-up switch is located. How many things do you actually have to disconnect??

Re: 1996 idling issues

Did you check the IAC again? Could be clogged up with carbon.

Don't know anything about an "idle up" switch on the power steering pump. There is a pressure switch on the pump that is connected to the ECM, but I don't know the effect this switch would have on your idle.

When power steering load is detected, the PS pressure switch signals the ECM. The ECM adjusts the idle speed for the increased load. If this switch is sticking it can cause your RPMs to increase as if there is a constant load on the PS system.
