S-10 setting a while - What maintenance is needed???

Hey everyone. This is my first Chevy & first truck. I bought a '93 4.3 with 89,000 miles from a guy that just didn't have a use for it. I hasn't ran much in the past couple years. However, the truck seems to run great!
I changed the oil. It was kinda dark and the filter was half rusted! It puts out a little white smoke the first 10 seconds when I start it. I thought of getting oil conditioners for the seals, and I replaced the air filter & pcv valve. Going for wires, plugs, & distributor this week.
Does a truck that's been setting, need anything else? I like to keep maintenance on my vehicles. Any suggestions would be appreciated to keep this thing running it's best. Thanks! - Shawn

you've got a vehicle that will last QUITE sometime.
check all your vacuum lines for dry rot;
and you could go to msn.com, go to their autos sections and register your vehicle. it will keep you posted of recalls, and TSBs, as well as allow you to pull up ALL maint. requirements, and just inspect (for now) anything that has to do with 60K-100K mileage services. just take a look and see if it appears it needs to be worked on.

if the seller gave you records and/or receipts, go through them, and check off anything already done, or, like I said, inspect the vehicle and if, example, the serp belt looks newer, and has no visual cracks or breaks, then don't change it.

I would change the fuel filter and put a can of dry gas in the tank the first few fill ups. When a car sits the inside of the gas tank condensates causing water in the fuel. This could be why you get the white smoke at start up, Water in the tank also causes rust that if not caught at the fuel filter will make its was to your carb or injectors. Check for rust on the brake parts also, wouldn't want to loose them when you need em.

seal conditioners are a must, espicially in the transmission if its manual, if its auto then there isn't much that you can put in it that would not harm it. Be careful putting too much drygas in it,it might make the engine run like crap, run some injector cleaner through it too. definately get that fuel filter out of there (If you can without breaking a line) cause itis prolly rusted on the inside, go easy on it for a while too. check the tires too for dry rot as well as the vacuun lines. It would be a very good idea to put some seal conditioners in it though.

The troddle will stick if not cleaned in the troddle body and cable. I found out first hand in my garage lucky for me my children was not in the way .It stuck because it sat for abiut a year and got dirty beware

you should probably also change the coolant , and probably pull the t-stat and flush it out with a few gallons of water to make sure theres no sludge build up in any of the coolant passages , and make sure to check all the coolant hoses as well to make sure they are soft or leaking, good luck!
