electical problem

i ahve recently been having problems with my 1999 grand am gt. it seems that when i start it, it dies and i have to start it again while giving it a little gas. it has a fairly new battery and a brand new altinator on it. another thing that it does is the blinker will speed up and slow down.
does anyone know what could be causeing this?
thanks

Re: electical problem

As far as the starting it is possible you may have a problem with the fuel pressure regulator not holding pressure when you turn the car off, this causes you to have to pump the gas to keep it running. The other possibility is a bad throttle position sensor is bad and it is not allowing the computer to sense when the throttle is in the idle position. Finally the Idle air control motor may be dirty and needs cleaned causing the car to not want to idle.

As for the blinkers speeding up and slowing down that could be caused by a loose connection at the battery, the ground or even the wiring to the switch.
