92 Grand Prix LE Thermostat Problem
I think the thermostat in my grand prix has died on me. My engine temp light came on last night and my rad was full. So basically how hard is it to change one of these and how much am i looking at for this part.
Also a quick question about the parking brake. I accidentally hit it today when getting into my car and so I released it and when i started my car my light was on. So i re-applied it and released it but the light was still on. I put the car into reverse and it moved just fine same as when i put it in drive. So is the light just stuck on? An if it is how can i get it to turn off? Thanks |

Re: 92 Grand Prix LE Thermostat Problem
Tstat should be a 15min fix and maybe $10. Takes more time to bleed the air out then to install tstat.
not sure about the ebrake, maybe check tension on the cables |

Re: 92 Grand Prix LE Thermostat Problem
well ive come to a new conclusion....the parking brake is on because my Dad was looking at it and he doesnt regularly drive my car so when i went to take it down the street to finish getting my stereo installed I noticed it was responding normally. So I called a friend he said to pull on the release lever and back up a few feet and that may disengage it but no luck. So if you guys could tell me how to manually disengage my parking brake that would be great.

Re: 92 Grand Prix LE Thermostat Problem
try pulling up on the pedal as you release it. Since the parking prake isn't used very often on cars with an auto trans, the return spring may be weak and the pedal isn't coming up all the way leaving the light on. If that doesn't work, the release spring on the lever at the rear caliper may be stuck not allowing the cable to retract. Try spraying some WD-40 type lube (avoid getting it on the pads and rotors of course) on the lever and cable to see if that frees them up.
