governor on 2002 gts???

my buddy has a 2002 gts, he was challenged to a race going on the interstate and accepted it. he took off smoking the guy who challended him, then at 100 mph the car stopped accellorating in 6th gear. when he hit 100 it felt as if a governor kicked in, does anyone know if these cars do have a governor, and if so, where are the located so i can take it out for him. or maybe someone can point me in the direction of a website that tells me how to take it out for him. its such a waste to have such a beautiful piece of machinery only go 100 mph. and no im not a celica owner, but im seriously thinking about selling my eclipse and getting one.

what's he even doin' in 6th? 6th gear is essentially an overdrive gear (hell, so is 5th) but like TRD hunnie said, the 7th gen is capable of 130mph+

the only knock on the '02s is that the rev limiter kicks in 500 or so RPMs sooner than the 00-01s (83xx) but apparently that problem is fixed for the '03 model

Was the car warmed up?

All the Honda VTEC engines have a low RPM limiter and no VTEC engagement when the engine is cold.
I should imagine Toyota does a similar thing with the VVTi-L.
(cold oil + 8,000rpm = )

Nice PIC! :ylsuper

But is that redlined in 6th?
The redline (if I was to remove the speed limiter) of my car in 5th is about 150mph, or 242kph exactly.
I know guys in Europe who have done this in the Euro version of my car, (which didnt get the jap spec limiter) and some one localy who had his car chipped to remove the limiter. (the needle shows about 240kph, but a calculation shows top speed of 242kph)
