continuous whinning noise

Hi,

I have a 98 camry and whenever standing on stop sign or otherwise idle also if the car is standing and gear is at D(drive) it always make some continuous whining noise somewhere from the front and if i change it to P or N noise goes away. There is nothing wrong in the car so i am not terribly worried but just wondering what can be possible issue for this noise?

Thanks

Re: continuous whinning noise

Check for loose heat shields around the exhaust system. They can become loose with age and set up all sorts of harmonic vibrations.

Cool

Replace the accessory belts...

Seriously stick your hea din the engine bay & triangulate where the noise comes from with your ears. There are a thousand rotating things in the car, if ya don't narrow it down we're just shooting blanks until it's fixed.
