2002 "Cavaliers" Any Chronic problems ?

I am new to this Cavalier forum.
I am thinking of buying a 2002 Cavalier.
Can anyone tell me if there are any chronic problems with that model that I need to be aware of? Is there another year that is more reliable?
After reading "Consumer Reports" magazine, they seemed to indicate that the '02 model was more reliabe than the other years. I do not know if that is true.
I would appreciate any advice you can give me.
Also, I know nothing about working on cars, I go to a reliabe mechanic.
The car I have now is a 1985 Monte Carlo with the transmission starting to slip and stick in certain gears.

Thank you,
Clyde Howell

Re: 2002 "Cavaliers" Any Chronic problems ?

Cavaliers are cheaper to maintain than a lot of the others out there. I have a 2000 but I think the 2002 cavy's are pretty much the same thing. So if the oil was changed every like 3000 miles, tires are kept inflated, and all that kind of stuff, you should be good. Lots of aftermarket parts for our vehicles also. Read the problem diagnosis threads and see what you can come up with. See if there have been any major problems. Click the link below.

I have a 2002 that I bought new. It is a base model with a 5 speed manual transmission and the 2200 OHV base engine. No problems other than needed front brakes and rotors, but that's pretty much routine maintenance.

Re: 2002 "Cavaliers" Any Chronic problems ?

I don't know of any chronic problems.

The only thing i would wacth for is i believe is a fuse for the fan. My sister's 2001 the lowest two settings on her fan didn't work anymore, just the upper two and we had to replace the fuse (i believe) and it seems like the same thing has happened to my 2002. I am however to lazy and broke and this point to care. One of the things on my list

My 2000 has the same problem with the ac and heater fan settings. Its like a resistor that needs to be replaced or something like that. I'll gert around to it eventually.
