Any one know where to find to AC Evaporator Drain tube on a 95 VW Golf?

I have a 1995 VW Golf. The floorboard on the passenger side has been getting wet and the AC doesn't get cold. The compressor engages and is holding a charge. I think the evaporator drain tube is plugged, but my Haynes manual does not show where the evaporator is located or what it looks like. Can anyone help?

the evaporator drain plug usually comes out under neath the middle of the car or at the bottom of the bulkhead. The floor board on my passenger side gets wet but it is usually the sunroof drain pipe blocked.
you need to get a manifold connected into your air con to find out if the pressure of the gas is fluctuating as the cappillary tube may be blocked, your best bet is to go to some one who does air con and get them to connect up their gauges to see what the pressure is in the gas.
the evaporator is usually fitted in the passenger footwell behind the dashbord. it is usually encased in a plastic housing and looks similar to your heater matrix.

From under the hood look at the firewall behind the engine in front of the passenger's foot area. There should be foil backed insulation, look for a approx. 1" U-haped cutout that can be folded back. Behind it you will find the drain outlet.

Re: Any one know where to find to AC Evaporator Drain tube on a 95 VW Golf?

I found the U-shaped flap and the drain hole behind it. I lifted up a little rubber flap that was just over the drain hole and out drained quite a bit of water and I could tell that there was a gross plug of crud inside it (under the smaller flap) which I believe I have cleared with a pipe cleaner (albeit, I probably just pushed most of the crud back into to the evaporator drain pan).

Question: there is no pipe that sticks out and there is that little flap on the hole. Is the idea that this flap will open from pressure to drain the condensate? Seems very odd to me and I can't imagine that would work very well. Could someone clarify this mystery for me?
