what should i do?

Okay first, I am coming into an 96 (i believe) accord that has been sitting for about a full year. It has about 80k miles on it and hasnt even been turned on in a year. What im wondering:
What should i check before i start driving this thing. Im going to have to take it on a 90 mile trip so i dont want anything going too wrong here.

Also, I am wondering more of an opinion based question.
Currently i drive a 94cavalier, 40k miles, original everything in it, and im pretty much poor as anything. So im wondering for longevity, which car would you choose to drive?

Any help on either of these questions would be very greatly appreciated. thanks again.

Re: what should i do?

i dont know much about accords, but cavaliers get pretty goods gas mileage and also run well, my cav has about 310000km and still runs pretty damn good im just starting to replace stuff now, but i dont know what accords get for milage, but its been sitting for a year so it may have things seized up in it, and has more kms than your cav, so id stick with the cav, but thats just my opinion
