Diamante fun.

Well, since I hardly have time to drive, besides going to/from work, most of my encounters so far have happened during the course of my daily commute. Since they're nothing really special, as I know what the car is capable of, and that isn't much, I'll just compile a couple of the run-ins I've had into this one thread.

First/Second: 1999+ Mustang V6 vert.

Yep. Twice. Same car both times. I see him on my way home. I guess it's no secret that I drive "brisk" to and from work, but I mostly stay with the traffic, unless there's a clump that decides going 5 MPH under the speed-limit was cool.

1st encounter happened when I decided to go around said clump of traffic (maybe 3 cars, or so). I guess me and the Mustang had the same idea, and he gunned it from behind me hoping to cut me off/get into the lane opening. Well, he lost. After that I ignored him, and I probably would have completely forgot about him, if it weren't for the 2nd encounter.

The 2nd time, it was an all out stretch. Same thing, cruising home, I see the same Mustang fly by me, going around slower traffic. I decided to pace him.

As we both hit a wide-open stretch of freeway (mind you, I leave work at 2:30pm nowadays, so it's well before rush hour), he guns it. I figured "what the heck...why not?", So I gun it too. We both started at about 70, with me maybe a second behind. Lo, and behold, at 90+, I was next to him, and at about 100, I was ahead of him by two cars. Considering my car has a drag coefficient of .28, it's designed to cut through the air good at high speeds - at least for such a fairly large car. Anyhow, he just kinda slinked back after that, and I haven't encountered him since.

This morning: Some Ram truck, probably a Hemi.

As I was taking this left onto the freeway I commute on, I had this newer dodge truck behind me. As I go briskly, to be ahead of the lane to the left of me (some Camry, he/she didn't even try), the Ram tailgates me HARD, as in I can read the VIN on his engine block, hard. As this jackass clears the Camry that was on our left, he cuts hard to that lane, which I KNEW he would do. I really floor it at that point, which wasn't much, as I always make sure to have good speed entering a fast freeway. We were both traveling probably around 50-60 mph at that point, and his front got as far as my left rear tire, and as the merge approached, he had to duck in behind me, as he didn't gain an inch, after I floored it near freeway speeds.

After that, he tried to stay behind me, but I kept it floored going into the relatively empty freeway (about 5 am at this point), at about 80, I increased my lead from one car (when he ducked in), to about 3 cars, and at past 90, I had at least 5 cars on him. I knew he had hit his aerodynamic barrier at that point, as I took it to about 110, before hitting the "whoa Nelly!" Pedal. I'd say I was a good 7 cars or so ahead, maybe. He just kinda stayed back for the rest of the drive after that, probably realizing an open freeway was not his strength.

It had to be a Hemi, the way it accelerated up that ramp. I also know that it would have killed me from a stop, or slow roll to maybe 70 or so, but also know my car will have the advantage beyond that, at least on a stock one, considering my car's excellent aero.

Re: Diamante fun.

Wish my car had your drag coefficient, it has the aero of a scion XB...well, maybe not quite that bad.

Good races.

I bought an 01 Diamante as a daily driver after I got the WS6 payed off, early March of this year. I love the cars. Really comfy and fairly luxurious, but they also have a surprising amount of get-up.
