Rev Limiter

Is there any way at all to get the computer reprogrammed to take the rev limiter out of a 2.2 '96 cavy. This is strictly for race purposes only. Racing on a 1/4 dirt oval and need to turn more RPM in second gear but just keep bouncing off the rev limiter.

The "A" isnt even close to the "U" on the keyboard....

As for the rev limiter Q. Search this site, its been discussed many times. If I had a few minutes Id find the thread for you, but I dont, so I cant.

And, let's not forget, you won't find any power in the higher RPM's with that pushrod motor.

I have tried searching and cant find anywhere a company that eliminates the rev limiter.

yeah, the computer on a cavalier, just like any other computer in the world, CAN be reprogrammed to your "liking" however, like you just said, finding the resources to do it isnt always the easiest

have you tried calling around to any performance shops?? i mean like a place where you'd take your car and leave it there for a month or 2 while they build it, they might be able to help with the computer programming....

Or he could always do the smart thing that you do with a pushrod...shift it into a higher gear so you get lower RPMs...you know...where the torque band is on a pushrod...

If i tell you how to raise your redline and you are not prepared to build your engine to handle it, all your going to do is snap a pushrod, throw a bearing, bend a few valves, anything it possible.

Your lookin at 3,000 easily to do it.

Motor work being able to handle it is what is going to hurt the pocket book most. And then the Stand alone engine management/laptop will do the rest of it.

O the engine can handle it, shifting isnt going to solve anything. When your racing on the 1/4 mile oval you have to keep the RPM's up throughout the turns. Right now the cars have the engines because they are stilling pulling good all the way up to the rev limiters. And I dont know why you dis the pushrod engine so much, got 3 cars and 2 are the 2.2's and 1 the DOHC 2.4 and the 2.2s keep up with the 2.4 and we have the same rev limiter problem with it. The cars can keep pulling at high RPM just have to get rid of the rev limiters.

Your digging your self a hole....

1) I am not dissing the OHV and no where in my post did i ever say anything negative about it except its failures when you push it past the redline, and it can happend with the 2.4L as well.
2) Sure the car pulls good up to 5200-5600 rpms and then power band plunges and then at 6200rpms redlines there is no power above 5000rpm range. Hmmm.... i wonder why... You may think an engine candle handle the higher rpms, but then why did GM put the rev limiter on the car?... Lets think hard here now... Oh wait yes! Duh, the engine CANNOT handle it with stock internals! Also why did they have a govener on the car not allowing it to go above 108mph, why? Because the car is not safe enough to handle it on stock OEM suspension, tires, braking....
3).. A 2.2 OHV keeping up with the LD9, yea right.... I have quite a bit done to my car engine wise with the 2200 ln2, and i have raced my buddy's semi stock Z... i did not keep up with it. So you have had to do some serious work to your car in order to make it keep up with a Z24. Thus you should know alot about the engine and have done your own research to figure somthings out stumbled across how-to's on this topic and shouldn't need to come in here and ask how to raise it..... Because to hang with a Z you need to do some serious internal work or running boost...

WHere the power above the 5,000 rpms mark??

2.4L

i think he was talking about overallcoma, even though he didnt actually dis him, i can see how he would take it that way

also, thanks for that little 2200 dyno sheet, i was told (on these forums) that the peak horsepower on the 2200 was at 5200 rpms
