Cavalier fuel economy boosters

Hi, this is my first post here, so please be patient.

I just purchased a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier and am looking to install some fuel economy boosting accessories. Can someone please suggest some items that will help me gain 3-5 MPG or more in fuel economy. I am a mechanic and probably will install these parts myself. I believe the engine is a 2.2L (I haven't taken delivery yet).

Thanks, Joe

welcome to automotive forums, you'd think we could help you but we just like to make fun of you more

but to answer your question...

for starters you could get an intake (or just a K&N style filter), a high performance catylic converter (or no catylic converter for that matter), and a high flow muffler. those are 3 good starters

And none of the suggestions are guaranteed to do anything. And one suggestion is even illegal.

The best fuel saving tips are to keep the vehicle well maintained as well as lose the lead foot (if you have one).

I was under the impression that it was a federal law that said all vehicles were required to have one, but it was up to individual states if they wanted to pass stricter performance requirements (e.g. CARB in California). Either way, the OP is in Mass. so the Nebraska argument doesn't mean much here.

this is starting to make me angry aswell as the other people, and i just got on these forums not to long ago, the guy asked a simple question, sure he's a mechanic and knows how to do the work, but maybe he doesnt know the "best" way to increase it or he wanted other peoples opinions aswell, who cares he asked and if your not going to answer or your going to criticize him dont post anything at all... we need moderators or something to cut down on this becauses its getting pathetic

See that little "Report Post" link after the messages? Click that, fill out the little text box with why you think a mod should look at the post, and click submit. It's impossible for mods to look at every post in every thread.

To be honest with ya, sometimes moderators have some say too. We jsut do it for fun, and they get there answers also. Well most of the time, But there are somethings that cannot be answered. Yes, I was one that criticized too, but it's just for fun. These forums can't all be serious. You know that, I know that, and so does everyone else. But sorry if I have offended anyone.
