1999 Sportage keyless remote

I bought a keyless remote for my 1999 Kia Sportage from the local Kia dealer but the instructions claim there is a programming button you must hold down for 15 second to program. I cannot find that button. Anyone know where that might be? I took the center console off and still couldn't find it or the RKE module.

If you legitimatetly bought this from the dealer, than ask the dealer.

hidden button

if you lay on your back looking up at the hood release handle, there should be a 1/8" black or red button just behind the handle, maybe a little closer toward the the wheel. It is mounted pointing down. Thing is well hidden. there is another hiding place on the later models, just above the gas cap release, hidden under the rug, between the release and the shifter cover. It's just a button on the end of 4 wires wrapped with electrical tape. I scratched my head many an hour trying to figure out my daughters 2000 Sportage, till I put the wheel up, the seat back and did almost a headstand to see under there. I even bought one of those flashlights that go on your forehead to see better under there. The LL Bean one works the best by the way.

If the vehicle came factory equipped with keyless entry the button is attached to 2 wires just left of the center console and just right of the gas pedal. It may be tucked in there and difficult to find.

Re: 1999 Sportage keyless remote

Kia Sportage Factory Keyless Remote Entry Transmitter Programming Instructions. 1. Open driver's door and turn ignition to "ON" position 2. Locate the programming button on wiring harness pigtail, behind the left side of the center console (to the right of the gas pedal), next to the RKE module. (feel around under the plastic wall) 3. Press & Hold the button for 15 seconds. The horn will sound 3 times when it enters programming mode. 4. Press the lock button on the transmitter. The horn should sound once to confirm the transmitter. Repeat for any additional transmitters up to 4 max 5. Turn ignition to "OFF" and test transmitters.

Question Re: 1999 Sportage keyless remote

Hey guys, I know this is quite an old forum, but having troubles with the RKE.... When I go to press the override button the horn will sound 3 times, but when I press the lock button on the transmitter nothing happens. Im a mechanic myself, unfornately not a Kia one. Im thinking its the RKE Module itself. The batteries were also replaced in both the transmitters as well. So if theres any Kia mechanics out there to give some advice as to what I can try to do next it would greatly be appreciated. Im trying to get this to work for my mom as she is located in Florida (where I currently am now) and I live in Illinois. Thanks in advance!
