Starting

When I try to start my 99 Altima it starts then runs for a couple seconds then shuts off. Does anyone know why? So 90 percent of the time I have to give it some gas just it will stay running.

is the car idling roughly? what range is it idling at? maybe your idle adjust screw needs some tweeking. check out your intake, are there any leaks? check all hoses that lead from the intake to the engine -- are they cracked or leaking? an air leak will cause your car to idle roughly and die.

Re: Starting

hi,
my altima also got the same problem couple of weeks back...
i changed the sparkplugs, sparkplug cables and distribution cup..now it is running good..and nomore am getting the problem...
while replacing the distribution cup take care to put it in proper position..
if it tilt little bit then you may face the starting problem again...so try different positions and kranking then settle on good position..
