1990 Jetta 1.8 Ltr. Overheating in Rain
I have a 1990 VW Jetta 1.8 ltr. Manual Tranny. Lately it has started overheating in the rain. It's totally fine in sunny or even cloudy weather but as soon as those raindrops fall, she goes up to 3/4 on the heat guage. I took it into a garage and they couldn't find the problem said bring it in next time it rains. Does anyone know about this....wondering?

I had a similar problem with my jetta (90, auto). The problem seemed to be solved after I adjusted the belt tension of the water pump. I actually had to get a slightly shorter belt, as I ran out of adjustment. Makes sense...when the belts gets wet, it slips...so tighter belt means less slipping.
Good luck! -Nic |
