99 Zx2 factory stereo lights dim?

I have a 1999 escort zx2 and it has a factory installed cd changer/tape deck and when I turn on my headlights the time screen goes almost complely away and the lights that are supposed to be on the buttons are dim aswell... HELP ME>>>!

They are supposed to get dimmer when you hit the lights, at least they do that way on my 97. Should be able to brighten the lights with your rheostat that controls the instrument lights.

nope they went so dim you can't see them now....and the switch won't go any higher

sounds stupid but did you go both directions with the switch high and low? If so check the wire connections. behind the radio.

Or replace the dimmer switch.
