Problem in OD

I have a 93 Mercury Tracer(Escort) and in OD 45mph or above after about 2-3 miles of driving it will start to buck, then I will step on the gas to make is downshift into 3rd and then it goes into 4th(OD) and after 2-3 miles it does the same thing. If I let off the gas alittle (in OD) it still bucks. I have not tryed 45mph or above in D(3rd). Someone told me there is a sensor inside the tranny, something about after cruising in OD for awhile there is actually another gear kind of a 5th gear if you will that helps keep the rpm's down on the highway. They said about $200. I'm trying to sell the car soon so I don't want to spend alot of $$$. Thanks for the help!!

I think that "5th" gear is a torque convertor lock. I had problems with it on another Ford product. It might be the VACUUM MODULATOR is bad. If not then it may need to go the shop.

About how much would that cost. I'm looking to sell the car for about $700-$800, so should I fix it or just tell the person what it might be and just lower my price alittle to pay for that without really paying for it? THANKS!!

I think you should sell it as is and tell them the vacuum modulator may be bad but you are not sure. That way you've been honest.

How does the vacumm modulator work? I do plan on telling the buyer about what it does above 45mph, it runs great in town 1,2,3 gears, just 45mph or higher it starts to buck. By the way, I think the shaking butt is funny, I've also seen some guys on here have one face kicking another face in the nuts, how do you guys get that stuff on here?

Find a 'shaking butt' or similar thing on the Internet. Right click on it and select 'properties'. There you will see the URL (web address) of the smiley face or whatever. Copy that address and paste it to your 'signature' on this site.
