Learning Guitar

I've had an interest to learn to play electric guitar for a while, so I was wondering how hard it is to learn how to play. And also what are some good guitars that you can learn on and not be too expensive.

Not that hard at all to learn. The biggest pointers I can give are learn to play songs that you like a lot first, at least the easy ones, so that you develop a love for actually playing early on. If you get too much into theory and technique right away it won't be as fun...so save that stuff for a little later. At the same time, learn some basic scales and mix those into your regular practice routine. You will enormously happy that you did in a few years.

How much are you looking to spend? I would say that a Fender or an Epiphone are good beginners guitars for sure.

I dont know how much a decent one goes for, whats a good one that isn't really expensive?

The Squier Strat is a decent guitar for damn cheap, and it usually comes in a 'beginner package' of some sort with an amp, strap, picks, etc.

Also, I suggest you take some lessons, if only a few. So you can learn proper technique, stance, etc, then once you learn that you can go off on your own and start to learn songs and chords.

Perfect. I started with a Squier personally, but it's a piece of shit. It lasts forever but it's strictly a practice guitar.

If you can afford it I'd suggest taking lessons. You learn about theory and stuff and you can also learn songs on your own outside of lessons. It makes you a better player quicker.

It'll be really hard at the beginning and your fingers WILL hurt until they get calused, but stick with it. Once you figure things out it's really fun.

I've been thinkin bout pickin up guitar too, or at least buyin one to have and play around on once in awhile. I play bass guitar on a Fender P-Bass and its really great but i dont care to spend $400 on a guitar alone this time. I was thinkin bout the squier strat starter pack cuz im not gonna be doin any serious playin, just practicing if that. Not stealing the thread just helpin the cause, anyone have any notable bad experiences with any brands? Good luck with finding the guitar for you though, if i have any more input later i'll post again

for me it was very hard to learn, but after the first few blisters you get use to it....... my dad owns a gibson les paul

blisters? i never got blisters and i started on acoustic .13 strings which are pretty heavy for just starting out.. my fingers just got real sore after an hour or so

you get blisters because you were playing on a heavy set of strings for too long.

Your finger tips will eventually callus up with hard skin and it wont hurt anymore. My 10 year old student's have callused up after about 3 months, maybe less.

Man, I've never heard of blistering, that's gotta suck...although when I was first learning I hadn't fully developed callouses yet, and I was sliding up the high E and the string cut right into my finger, got a fair amount of blood on the fretboard, it sucked.

ive never done that either.. maybe u just need to know when to rest your fingers a bit...

I Also was looking at them.....It will be my first one....Is a Bass good to start with? Any suggestions has to be under 250$
