Question Block heater question

I have an 02 with the 5.3, does any one know if there was an option for a block heater?, or more importantly, is one available now? I ordered my 96 with one, but that was with the 350. I'm not sure if the freeze plugs are the same size. I'm going on a hunting trip in northern Quebec in December and our outfitter highly recommends having one. Thanks for any info you might have.

The engine block heaters are OFTEN standard on trucks ordered by dealers in our area of the country (Wisconsin). As an installed option from the factory - its a $35 item. As an "after factory" item - it is certainly available - but item and labor will probably run you closer to $100 or so. Still - they are a good thing to have when the weatherman starts to shiver.

Re: Block heater question

They make block heaters for your truck. Get some Anti-Freeze because when you knock out the casting plug you will loose a lot of fluid. You might want to find a hoist as it is hard to move fast when the fluid starts "Pouring" out on you. Simple job once you get the fluid out....

Re: Block heater question

Take a large punch and scewer the freeze plug to remove it. Smooth out the surface of the block and slide the heater in. Refill your radiator and drive off with a warmer block. Most heaters will come with directions and placement location.

P.S. Don't drive off without unplugging...... Not Pretty
