91 4runner running rough

have a 91 4runner,v6, power windows, auto...

The problem is..............I had a new starter put in,new plugs,wires etc.. I went to start it today and it was dead.. got a jump and drove it for about a mile.. it died, got it jumped again I now its cutting out almost like its vapor locking ( running normal for about 2 minutes then it starts getting rough and almost like its back firing)and will only go into to drive when the engine is running. the power is so low that it wont put up the windows..
a light came on in the dash to the far right, I believe it said "ect ___".

if anyone could fill in the blank or any idea it would very much be appericated.
