engine diesles (keeps running

I need some help I have an 81 pickup with a carburated 22r with about 350,000 miles on it it still runs good burns no oil and still has pretty good power but when you go to shut it off it diesles (keeps running) for about 5 seconds after you shut the key off, I adjusted the main jet 1 1/4 turn open , please help

Have you tried putting a cleaner down the carb. yet?

I have sprayed carb cleaner into the carb to clean it out, it is also hard to start when cold

Put some SeaFoam or GM Top Engine Cleaner into your engine through the carburetor as per the directions on the can.

Check all the vacuum hoses.
Sea Foam will help clean out any carbon deposits in the cylinders.

I dont know were to buy seafoam I had some automatic transmisson fluid and some marvel mystery oil I used some of both strait down the carb about 1/4 of the marvel mystery oil and a little but of the trany fluid then drownded it till it died let set for 15 minutes then drove it like I stole it and is seems to run much smoother and have much more power but it still diesles I will repeat this procedure it seems to be doing some good

if you have a manual trans. you can put the car in 2nd and put your other foot on the brakes....when you turn off the key let the clutch out (with your other foot on the brake) and let it stall to stop the engine.

this doesn't fix your problem, but it is easier on the engine than letting it run-on and less embarassing in the parking lot than your car bucking and coughing.

to fix the problem ..... check your timing.
also this condition can be caused by carbon build up on the valves so using those cleaners may work too.

yah man that is how I stop the engine cuz I didnt think it was too good for the engine to do that thank you for the input on fixing the problem I do apreciate it very much
