widest tire size 1999 Sonoma

I'm trying to determine the largest tire I can put under a stock 99 Sonoma 2WD Ext Cab. The current wheels are 15 X 6 with 205/75/15 tires. I see that a 255/60/15 will replace the stock 205/75/15 as far as diameter, but I'm needing to know about clearance from the added width. I've been told 225/70/15 is the largest I can go by some, and 255/60/15 will work fine by others.
What do you guys know?

Wow, nobody has this information! [That] I can easily find, it but I thought I'd just see what kind of help I could get here.
