hey... biker boyz novelty, saw one of them spinning. it's basically a car with bike engine. anything that doesn't handle like it's on two wheels, isn't really a bike anymore, like those trikes.

it isn't counted as a car because it can beat a crotch rocket and the only production car that can beat a sportbike on the track is the ariel atom.

and i'm not sure but i think the lotus elise 340r

"a sportbike" eh? That could be anything from an SV650 to a 999R. Id say something like an Enzo/GT/CCR would be necessary to run with a literbike, even then I really don't know how that would turn out. I think I'd put my money on a bike with a capable rider and minor mods (tires, rearsets for ground clearance, etc) over any production car.

Unfortunately getting a good bike vs car comparison is damn near impossible. They did one with the atom and a 600RR but im pretty sure it's a joke. The rider was riding like he was on his way to the grocery store. He didn't even get low enough to drop a knee, let alone actually push the bike to any kind of limit.

I say one of those t-rex's while I was out riding today, but the guy refused to break 30mph in the damn thing. What a waste.

sure, I wouldn't mind driving one, much like 2 stroke go carts. but most of the comparos between bikes and something with more than 2 wheels have been total bullshit. sure best cars can outcorner a bike, but can they come out just as fast??

rossi on bike vs raikonen on four wheels, that'd be fun to watch. btw, there's a rumor that rossi might be racing Ferrari's F1 in F1 GP 2007.

Re: if you had a lot of money would you buy this?

there's a top gear vid where the ariel atom beats a cbr600rr in a race, not sure if it's bull like the other top gear car vs bike vids but the biker seemed to be driving competently (haven't seen it in a while so i don't remember 100%) it beats a porsche carrera gt on the track. it's a sweet car. as for that trike type thing, if i had the money to waste i might because it looks cool and im sure it performs very well.

Re: if you had a lot of money would you buy this?

nevermind 70grand.

take 5-10grand and build yourself a kitcar/kart.
thatll dominate. How about a superkart with 5 gears. g-forces better than a F1forumula, and top speed near 200mph.

The CBR vs Atom video was a complete joke, with a rider coming nowhere near exploiting the limits of the bike. I have yet to see a bike in a Top Gear video ever used to any form of potential.

"It beats a CGT on a track" is way too broad of a statement to be accurate. Even *IF* an Atom carried more apex speed than an CGT, it would be eaten alive on faster tracks/sections of track. It would really depend on the environment you were comparing them in.

The fastest shifter karts are pulling in the neighborhood of 2.75 G's of lateral cornering force. The fastest 250's are pulling ~160mph top speed. The only figures I've ever heard for an F1 car were ~4.0G's sustained. I would be very skeptical of the accuracy of any figures I heard about F1 cars, since virtually any data on the cars will be under extreme lock and key by the manufacturers. I can easily tell you that Formula 1 cars are the pinnacle of road racing performance, however.

Although that Top Gear guy is a prick, but myself and other sportbike riders on another board watched that CBR vs Atom vid, it seemed pretty believable. Not saying CBR rider pushed to full limits, but even then, the Atom would seem to outcorner. The R1 VS Carrera vid was a hoax.

Re: if you had a lot of money would you buy this?

The rider sits directly on top of the bike, and never even gets low enough to drop a knee. He rides it like hes on a cooldown lap. I'm substantially lower on the street in the picture in my sig than that guy is on the track, and I know I can't find the limit of my R6 even with my head down at full tilt boogie on a track.

Look at his braking point, and look at the lack of fork compression and the rear wheel being firmly planted on the ground. Had he been braking at race pace, he would have had front end dive and the rear wheel would have been dancing.

Even if the atom were faster everywhere else on the track, the back straight would have been an easy place to put down a pass on it, yet they cheerfully exclaim the atom continues to pull away? Right. Based on what I saw in the video I feel certain I could have turned a substantially quicker lap than that rider, and as I've said many times before, there are plenty of faster guys out there than me.

Another general rule of thumb to keep in mind is, if you ever see a shootout where the competing vehicles are on the track at the same time for their timed laps, you're probably not looking at a credible test.

I've got a great video of Rossi testing in Valencia that I'll upload for you when I get home from work. It captures the mannerisms of a motorcycle truly being pushed to its limit very well for a video. Compare the two, and I think even someone with no motorcycle knowledge will be able to see how pathetically staged that video was.

I'd be very interested to see a real comparison to know how they actually stack up.
