tow bar install

has anyone had any experience in installing a tow bar on a 1964 GC limited , 4.0 auto trans, 4x4.....my biggest concern is in the wiring hook up, and where and how you access the existing wires to do so , thanks ...

Re: tow bar install

yea there is also a problem with the year of your vehicle. ZJ, didn't come out till 93......lol

Well the hitch part is gonna be pretty simple, the wiring for the tow package is where it gets a lil complicated. I am not exactly sure what kind of wiring you got going on, just the basic 4 port wiring (for the brake lights and signals) or are you going with a 7 pin RV wiring with electric braking?

The 4 pin basic set-up is pretty easy, i believe you could just splice right into your existing, brake/turn lights... I have never hooked one up from the beginning, but I have just replaced all my connections/wiring up to the box because of corrosion from mud and such over the years.

I am sure a few people have done this and will reply with the correct way to go about.

Re: tow bar install

HA! your right , I shudda looked closer to see the typo..Im going for the basic hook up to tow a small boat, my biggest concern is how the wires are accessed and routed to the outside of the frame, don t want to have to drill holes in it, also, theres the real posibility of interfering with the wacky alarm system built into this car, a friend had a hitch installed on their GC, and it caused a lot of problems with the turn signals and brake lights ...might be better off installing the mechanical bar , and using a temporary, removable wire set up..thanks for your reply
